Wind energy is our passion!

According to today’s historians, Mesopotamian civilisations had already developed irrigation systems with the help of the water wheel way back in 1700 BC. Onshore wind power is one of the oldest forms of energy used by man. As well as in Persia, wind power was also used early on for mechanical work in countries such as Tibet and China. From the 12th century, the first windmills started to appear in Europe. These windmills with their horizontal rotating axes were predominantly used for grinding grain, threshing, and pumping and scooping water as well as sawing wood, hammering seeds and milling grain.

In the second half of the 19th century, the first attempts were made to generate electric energy by means of wind power. In 1887/1888, Charles F. Brush built the first wind turbine to supply his own house with electrical power.

In 1891, the Dane Poul La Cour established the first test turbine in Jutland, enabling him to scientifically research the rudiments of wind technology. In spite of these early beginnings, wind power remained a niche technology for a long time. It finally received its first real boost in Germany in 1991 thanks to the Electricity Supply Act, which was accelerated further by the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) of 2001. With an installed capacity of 59,500 megawatts in mid 2019, Germany is today one of the global market leaders in wind power consumption. In recent years, the German wind power industry has been continually expanding and securing its key position in this forward-thinking market.
